About Bareboat Catamaran Fountaine Pajot Astrea 42
The Astrea 42 is a masterclass in catamaran design. Built by Fountaine Pajot in 2019, this bareboat offers the rare combination of generous interior volume with the shallow draft that suits Bahamian waters. Five cabins accommodate up to 11 guests, though eight is the comfortable maximum for a more relaxed charter.
The layout prioritises both social and solitary moments. The cockpit extends the living space outdoors, with a bimini overhead and integrated speakers for your own soundtrack. The salon converts to suit your needs, whilst the flybridge offers an elevated vantage point for sunbathing or navigation. A water maker and air conditioning ensure you can cruise at your own pace without compromise.
Highlights
- •Five-cabin layout with four double berths and one single forepeak, plus four heads
- •Full battened mainsail, roller genoa, and autopilot for confident sailing or relaxed cruising
- •Electric windlass, GPS, VHF, and modern navigation systems built for bareboat autonomy
- •Onboard water maker, generator, solar panels, air conditioning, and galley-mounted plancha for self-sufficient weeks at anchor
The Charter Experience
A bareboat charter in the Bahamas demands respect for local conditions and genuine sailing ability. If you hold a recognised skipper's qualification, you navigate these turquoise shallows and protected anchorages at your command. Alternatively, hire an experienced local skipper to occupy one of the guest cabins and handle the technical work, freeing you to focus on the islands. The Exumas reward explorers with crystalline banks, untouched cays, and a rhythm governed entirely by your appetite for discovery.
Suggested Itinerary
Begin in Nassau and chart a course southeast towards the Exumas. Anchor off Thunderball Grotto, drift through the Thunderbolt Canyon, and explore the isolated cays of the southern Exuma Cays. Fish the shallow banks, deploy kayaks and paddleboards from the boarding platform, and dine under stars in protected anchorages where few vessels venture. Seven days allows time to move without haste and truly absorb the archipelago's character.
